In a strategic move to fortify its position as a global cybersecurity leader, SonicWall has officially acquired Banyan Security, a prominent provider of Security Service Edge (SSE) solutions designed for the modern workforce. This acquisition enhances SonicWall’s product portfolio by integrating cutting-edge zero-trust security measures, trusted by both Fortune 100 companies and small businesses transitioning from traditional architectures to SSE solutions, including Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA).

Given the rise of hybrid and remote work models, coupled with the growing complexity of network structures, organizations face new challenges in securing their extended access surfaces. Zero trust models, replacing outdated architectures, have become crucial in modernizing security measures. SonicWall’s acquisition of Banyan Security is a strategic response to these challenges, reinforcing its commitment to delivering advanced solutions.

How Banyan will strengthen SonicWall’s offerings

“Cybersecurity’s focus is shifting to more dynamic solutions that can adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of threats in the cloud age,” said SonicWall President and CEO Bob Vankirk. “For years, firewalls have been the cornerstone of cybersecurity defenses. However, with the rise of cloud computing and secure access service edge (SASE), the industry is shifting its focus to more comprehensive and flexible approaches that include SSE and ZTNA as a necessity. Together, SonicWall and Banyan Security will provide cloud-based secure access service edge (SASE) solutions that empower partners to deliver a security architecture for any stage of their customers’ evolving cloud journey.”

Banyan’s technology significantly expands SonicWall’s reach into the cloud, providing partners and customers with increased flexibility—an essential element in the ongoing development of SonicWall’s cybersecurity platform. This strategic acquisition aligns seamlessly with SonicWall’s “best of suite” strategy, offering network, endpoint, wireless, cloud email, and threat intelligence solutions through a unified, multi-tenant portal. By simplifying workflows and enhancing threat visibility, the platform enables service providers and end-users to concentrate on core priorities.

Joshua Skeens, CEO of Logically and a valued SonicWall partner, acknowledged SonicWall’s historical role in delivering leading cybersecurity solutions and said, “They’re now extending that to the cloud as the demand for cloud-first strategies is evident. As businesses embark on their cloud journey, they will require hybrid deployments which SonicWall is ideally positioned to provide, and we are excited to be working alongside SonicWall as we empower businesses to thrive in this new era.”

This announcement follows SonicWall’s recent acquisition of Solutions Granted, Inc. (SGI) in November 2023. The acquisition of SGI further equipped SonicWall’s channel partners with state-of-the-art Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services tailored for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs). SonicWall’s commitment to its partners is evident in its outside-in approach, providing a comprehensive and flexible portfolio to support their growth in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
