Zscaler adds another layer of security for customer data protection by acquiring Canonic Security

Saas security

Cloud security provider, Zscaler, Inc. will acquire SaaS application security platform innovator, Canonic Security. Canonic’s platform is the answer to corporate ITs’ prayers, as it tackles emerging threats due to companies’ mass migration into cloud platforms. By leveraging its sophisticated software, organizations can securely adopt several software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications and protect against unauthorized access from thousands of third-party tools and browser extensions that may otherwise pose a risk to their critical data assets.

Third-party drivers, email clients and chatbots leave valuable corporate assets exposed to the potential of cyber risk. Canonic is here to help streamline SaaS application governance with a comprehensive solution designed for cybersecurity and IT teams, allowing them greater visibility into this previously ungoverned surface area.

With the integration of the new supply chain security capabilities into its data protection services, Zscaler will bolster its CASB (Cloud Access Security Broker) and SSPM (SaaS Security Posture Management) offerings. This will help companies consolidate point products reducing costs and simplifying management. This innovative addition adds further value to its recently announced industry-first, zero configuration data protection solution, affirming the company’s commitment to keeping corporate information secure wherever it may be residing.

Zscaler is set to finalize a transaction following the conclusion of its fiscal second quarter, pending the fulfillment of customary closing conditions.

How Zscaler customers can benefit from Canonic’s SaaS security

Enterprises migrating to the cloud have faced significant challenges in controlling their expanding SaaS app estates while safeguarding critical data exposed by third-party machine suppliers throughout their supply chain. These difficulties are made worse due to the current shortage of skills necessary for securely managing a broad range of settings and permissions – making effective IT management difficult.

Canonic’s advanced SaaS security solution integrated into Zscaler’s existing suite of protections provides organizations with a powerful protection package that helps customer data protection in the following ways:

  • Monitoring SaaS security posture: Continuously monitors potentially fatal misconfigurations and compliance violations in SaaS platforms like Atlassian Suite, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, and Slack.
  • Discovering and assessing third-party apps and extensions: Customers get full visibility over first, second, and third-party apps and API integrations throughout the enterprise business application estate. The solution helps discover rogue and vulnerable apps, and evaluate each integration posture, behavior, and the risk involved in API access and browser extensions.
  • Reducing attack surface: The solution isolates suspicious apps, reduces excessive and inappropriate privileges, revokes, and blocks access if necessary.
  • Enforcing access governance: Unlock app integrations by automating app-vetting and app access recertification processes.

Zscaler previous acquisitions

Zscaler previously acquired ShiftRight, a leader in closed-loop security workflow automation. ShiftRight’s workflow automation technology is integrated into the Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange™ cloud security platform for automating security management as organizations are increasingly facing risks and incidents. This integration offers a simple, sophisticated solution to reduce incident resolution time significantly.

Zscaler became a member of the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) in December 2022, as part of its commitment to improving cyber resiliency. Zscaler will work with JCDC for improving the collective cybersecurity posture of the United States and strategic international partners.
