McAfee, the leading cybersecurity solutions provider, announced the latest version of McAfee Cloud Workload Security (CWS) v5.1, to identify and secure Docker containers, workloads, and servers in private and public cloud environments.
McAfee Cloud Workload Security, the core pillar of McAfee’s Cloud Security Solution Portfolio, helps enterprises to secure cloud workloads and containers across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, VMware, and private cloud.
With containers becoming the preferred deployment model for modern cloud applications, organizations need to build a solid foundation for secure container initiatives.
Around 80% of the organizations were using or experimenting with the containers, but only 66% of them had a strategy to apply security to containers, as per a report by McAfee.
McAfee wrote that CWS v5.1 can identify Docker containers within five minutes from their deployment and secure them using micro- and nano-segmentation.
The micro-segmentation allows users to separate the concerned containers and workloads with a single click. It reduces the misconfiguration risk and increases the threat restriction efficiency.
With the earlier version of CWS, users needed point solutions to secure containers. The point solutions are used to solve individual issues, and hence the organizations had to use multiple technologies to control multiple environments. This increased unnecessary complexities.
The new version of McAfee CWS also allows support for the top cloud service providers, so that the users can seamlessly manage the security through a single interface. It automatically discovers and protects the elastic workloads to remove the blind spots, and provides advanced threat defense.
“As enterprises turn to the cloud to transform themselves into a digital business and develop compelling experiences for their customers, they often overlook the security challenges involved in adopting a multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environment,” said Rajiv Gupta, senior vice president of the cloud security business unit, McAfee. “McAfee Cloud Workload Security enables organizations to secure cloud workloads and containers across AWS, Azure, VMware, and their private cloud, addressing key security, compliance and governance requirements so that they can accelerate their business in the cloud.”
A new feature called discovery of Docker containers using Kubernetes, will allow the customers to view and manage containers within McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO).
The other new features include enhanced threat monitoring and detection with AWS GuardDuty, and compliance assessments for auditing the internal and standardized policies.
Announced at the RSA Conference USA 2018, the CWS v5.1 is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2018.
