The global technology and mobility sectors mark a somber moment with the passing of Dr. S.B. (Ravi) Pandit, Chairman and Co-Founder of KPIT Technologies. A revered leader and intellectual architect, Mr. Pandit’s journey from the founding of KPIT in 1990 to its emergence as a global powerhouse reflects a life dedicated to innovation, integrity, and societal progress.

Architect of Software-Defined Mobility

Mr. Pandit was instrumental in KPIT’s evolution from a small enterprise into a focused, innovation-driven organization. Under his leadership, the company became a global leader in software-defined mobility, powering advancements in alternate powertrains, autonomous technologies, and software-defined vehicles across continents. His vision was centered on the belief that technology should drive cleaner, safer, and more efficient transportation systems worldwide.

A Champion for a Greener Future

Beyond commercial success, Mr. Pandit consistently championed the role of technology in addressing climate and energy challenges. His deep commitment to sustainable mobility was evident in his advocacy for hydrogen fuel cells and sodium-ion battery technology. Through initiatives like HRIDAY (Hydrogen Revolution for India’s Development of Agriculture & EnergY), he emphasized inclusive development powered by clean energy, ensuring that innovation translated into long-term societal impact.
 

Institutional Leadership and Ecosystem Impact

Mr. Pandit’s influence extended far beyond the boardroom of KPIT. An alumnus of the Sloan School of Management at MIT, USA, a gold-medalist Chartered Accountant and a recipient of honorary doctorates from Coventry University, Amity University, TVM University and EMB University. He built institutions rooted in excellence. His contributions to the Indian professional and technology ecosystem were extensive:

  • Industry Leadership: He was a prominent voice in industry forums, contributing actively to nasscom and serving on the nasscom ER&D Council.
  • National Policy: He served as a member of the Empowered Group for India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and chaired the Research Council at the Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CEERI).
  • Civic Contribution: As President of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) and through platforms like the Pune International Centre and Janwani, he shaped national dialogues on sustainability and urban governance.
