The .pw Registry Adopts Uniform Rapid Suspension, ICANN’s Latest Rights Protection Mechanism

The .pw Registry today announced its adoption of  the Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS), ICANN’s latest rights protection mechanism, making it the first TLD to do so. The Uniform Rapid Suspension provides trademark holders with faster protection against infringement than the existing Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP). One of our goals in the adoption of URS is also to help the community by ensuring a more refined and predictable experience when the URS roll-out takes place across more than a thousand new gTLDs. – Sandeep Ramchandani, Business Head, The .pw Registry. In case of domain infringement, URS  immediately suspends the infringing domain and then proceeds to a trial, in contrast to UDRP, a more expensive and long process which awards ownership of a domain to the winn...

“.IN.NET Provides Businesses and Individuals With Good Quality Domain Names”- Neha Naik, .IN.NET

Internet in India is reaching small towns and the lower rungs of the economic ladder very rapidly, bridging geographical barriers and exposing consumers to the market more effectively than ever before. Brick-and-mortar stores can no longer be sufficient with the significant expansion in the variety of products available online. This growing digital influence, currently affecting $30 billion of urban consumer spending, makes getting online not an option but a necessity. However, most Indian businesses looking to get a website face a roadblock on the very first, and probably the most important step of getting online – unavailability of the domain name of their choice. With .COM mostly exhausted and .IN depleting fast, quality domain names are limited and SMBs have to settle for long si...

“DNSSEC Will Become a Standard Part of Any Offering Over time,” Dr. Burt Kaliski, Verisign

Change has been constant in almost every facet of life throughout the past, and technology industry is no exception. There is no uniformity in technology; it keeps on developing, improving, re-inventing itself, and in the process also changing the way it diffuses across the society. It’s always a pleasant sight to have people and organizations that support, facilitate and ensure adoption of these changes. If not for them, we’d still be stuck in the world of dial-up internet, huge computers, and rotary dial telephones. Heck, we wouldn’t even have been able to reach that world itself. And Verisign is one such organization. Through its efforts to ensure operational deployment of DANE, DNNSEC , IPv6 and many more protocols/products that seek to replace the traditional systems in place to...

“.CO Provides Much More Value Than Just a Domain Name,” – Lori Anne Wardi, .CO Internet

I remember being very apathetical when the new generic top level domain (gTLD) application system opened on January 12, 2012. With the exception of .CO, new gTLD launches of the past like Biz, Info, Travel, Mobi, etc. had failed to marginalize .COM’s dominant position and there was no reason to think otherwise for the forthcoming ones. I’ve been proven wrong overtime. The industry has shown great interest in the new gTLDs. With as many as 1930 applications received by the ICANN, the new gTLDs are touted to be the next big thing in the domain arena. Their journey once they hit the market will be a very interesting one to watch; some of them’ll be successful and some won’t. But I genuinely doubt if any one of them will be able to have as big an impact as .CO has. The only e...

Directi, Tucows and Namecheap Partner to Manage .online Registry for ICANN’s new gTLD program

Domain industry veterans Directi, Tucows and Namecheap have announced formation of an alliance  to manage the .online registry. Directi and Tucows are  known for their wholesale platforms and the large, global domain name reseller channels they manage. Namecheap, a top-ten retail registrar, is best known for its strong consumer brand and emphasis on customer service. The move comes as ICANN accepted nearly 2,000 applications from prospective registries who would like to manage their own TLDs as  part of its New Generic Top Level Domain (gTLD) program. It’s highly likely that we may see other partnerships formed in the coming days  as ICANN has encouraged applicants not to compete for auction but to team up on gTLD strings to  save themselves considerable time and money. The three com...

LogicBoxes Launches Integrate Vertically Service for New gTLD Operators

LogicBoxes, the developer of OrderBox , a Registrar automation product currently used by over 100 ICANN Accredited Registrars, announced the launch of a new solution, ‘Integrate Vertically’, tailored to meet the needs of New gTLD operators. The solution is meant for those New gTLD operators that wish to set-up a Registrar subsidiary to distribute their TLDs to resellers, end-customers or internal users, without depending exclusively on existing Registrars. The electric fence that divided registry and registrar operations since 1999 has been torn down. gTLDs will soon out-number the active Registrars but their shelf space will be very limited. Incumbent Registrars will not be able to focus on all gTLDs as they do today. New gTLD operators need to plan their distribution strategy and evaluat...
