Google and IBM recently joined forces to create and open source the Grafeas project, with an aim to provide developers a structured way of auditing and governing the modern software supply chains. Grafeas provides an open API that collects and aggregates the metadata generated at various stages of software supply chain. The metadata store and enforcement point help in gaining visibility into development environments and in enforcing policies without slowing down the development teams. IBM and Akamai Technologies announced the availability of Akamai Content Delivery Network (CDN) on IBM Cloud. The new offering aims to create one of the world’s fastest and most reliable content delivery network. Data Center Infrastructure Market Growth Lags, Public Cloud Flourishes: Synergy Research Group

Synergy Research Group’s new Q2 data shows that the quarterly spending on overall data center hardware and software has grown by only 5% in the last 2 years, while spending on the public cloud portion of the same has grown by 35%. The spending on traditional, non-cloud data hardware and software has also decreased by 18%. But private cloud infrastructure market has grown, though less compared to public cloud. IBM takes another step towards open source commitment – open sources WebSphere Liberty code

IBM launched the Open Liberty project this week to take its Liberty to a next level by moving the essential Liberty code base into open. IBM’s ongoing development for WebSphere will be based on this project, and the availability of this code is in GitHub under the Eclipse Public License V1. IBM had created Liberty five years ago, to help developers turn ideas into production-ready apps more quickly and easily using agile and DevOps principles. Dell EMC and HPE compete for top spot in server market as worldwide server shipments grew by 2.4 percent in Q2 2017: Gartner report

In the latest report about the server market by Gartner, the world’s leading research and advisory company, it has been found that in the second quarter of 2017, worldwide server revenue increased 2.8% YoY, while shipments grew 2.4% from the second quarter of 2016. “The second quarter of 2017 produced some growth compared with the first quarter on a global level, with varying regional results. The growth for the quarter is attributable to two main factors. The first is strong regional performance in Asia/Pacific because of data center infrastructure build-outs, mostly in China. VMware is all set to roll out its new product named ‘App Defense’ for protecting its software from cyber-attacks. IBM has completed the acquisition of SoftLayer Technologies for an undisclosed amount.
