Google and IBM to jointly address developer security challenges with Grafeas

Google and IBM recently joined forces to create and open source the Grafeas project, with an aim to provide developers a structured way of auditing and governing the modern software supply chains. Grafeas provides an open API that collects and aggregates the metadata generated at various stages of software supply chain. The metadata store and enforcement point help in gaining visibility into development environments and in enforcing policies without slowing down the development teams. IBM has an in-built Vulnerability Advisor into its Container service as a part of DevOps process that scans the container images and detects software package vulnerability and poor software configurations. It further makes a risk assessment for the contained software. To build a more comprehensive security an...

GitLab raises $20 million in funding led by GV to create Complete DevOps

GitLab, a leading code management platform for developers, recently raised $20 million in a Series C funding led by GV (formerly Google Ventures), which has brought GitLab’s total funding to over $45.5 million to date. The funding will be used for building ‘Complete DevOps’, a solution that merges development and operations into a single user experience. The Complete DevOps will reduce friction, increase collaboration, and drive a competitive advantage. The investment will be used to add new functionality for packaging, releasing, configuring, and monitoring software. “The Fortune 500 is racing to build world-class software development organizations that mirror the speed, productivity, and quality of the largest tech companies. As these organizations strive to produce high-quality co...

Microsoft announces preview of burstable VM series

Microsoft has announced the public preview of its new Azure VM family – the B-series, which will offer cost efficiency and burstability to workloads that are running in Azure. These VMs are best suited for workloads that do not need a continuous CPU performance like web servers, small databases and development/test environments. The B-series VMs are designed to optimize performance during less workload, and burst capacity during increased workloads. The concept is quite similar to what AWS and Google have been offering through T2 instances and f1-micro and g1 small instances, respectively. During less workloads, the B-series VMs will run in low points without utilizing the full capacity of the CPU. However, the user will pay for the full CPU only. Once the VM accumulates enough credits, it...

Technologies like NFV put Telecom Industry at the forefront of Digital Transformation

The OPNFV summit 2017 saw an august gathering of developers, end-users and various communities who work towards the emerging Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) technologies. Telecom industry is at the forefront of digital transformation with technologies like NFV gaining momentum. NFV is a technology that can replace the need of physical appliances in telecom sector. It allows multifaceted network functions – Virtualized Network Function (VNF), to be accomplished on compute nodes in datacenters. The Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV) helps in its (NFV) evolution and maintains industry collaboration for consistency, interoperability and performance among various virtualized network infrastructures, with an intention to accelerate the new products and service introduction using its appl...
