Synergy Research Group’s new Q2 data shows that the quarterly spending on overall data center hardware and software has grown by only 5% in the last 2 years, while spending on the public cloud portion of the same has grown by 35%. The spending on traditional, non-cloud data hardware and software has also decreased by 18%. But private cloud infrastructure market has grown, though less compared to public cloud. The total revenues of data center infrastructure equipment (cloud & non-cloud hardware and software), in the second quarter were over $30 billion, of which 30% accounted for public cloud infrastructure. Cisco Systems, the worldwide technology leader in networking hardware, telecommunications equipment and high-technology products, completely acquired Springpath, Inc., a hyperconvergence software specialist, based in Sunnyvale. Dell EMC and HPE compete for top spot in server market as worldwide server shipments grew by 2.4 percent in Q2 2017: Gartner report

In the latest report about the server market by Gartner, the world’s leading research and advisory company, it has been found that in the second quarter of 2017, worldwide server revenue increased 2.8% YoY, while shipments grew 2.4% from the second quarter of 2016. “The second quarter of 2017 produced some growth compared with the first quarter on a global level, with varying regional results. The growth for the quarter is attributable to two main factors. The first is strong regional performance in Asia/Pacific because of data center infrastructure build-outs, mostly in China. Cisco Announces a Definitive Agreement to Acquire Sourcefire For $2.7 billion

Cisco today announced  a definitive agreement to acquire Sourcefire, a intelligent cybersecurity solutions provider. The acquisition has been approved by the board of directors of each company. Under the terms of the agreement, Cisco will pay $76 per share in cash in exchange for each share of Sourcefire and assume outstanding equity awards for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $2.7 billion, including retention-based incentives. Cisco revealed via an official press release that it expects the acquisition to be slightly dilutive to non-GAAP earnings in fiscal year 2014 due to normal purchase accounting adjustments and integration costs.
