DigitalOcean launches Spaces: A scalable object storage for developers

DigitalOcean, an American cloud infrastructure provider, launched a standalone object storage service named Spaces, to enable developers store and serve data with automatic scalability, performance, and reliability. Spaces provides automatic scalable storage, so the projects always have room to grow. It can host web assets, store user-generated content such as images and media files, with archiving backups in cloud and storing logs. Using Spaces, a Space can be created in just two clicks- Name the Space and tap Create. The permissions and metadata for one to many files can be quickly changed at once. It is useful when the developers are applying uniform permissions and metadata across a large number of files. It also provides a large ecosystem of S3-comaptible tools and libraries to manage...

AWS makes a huge change to its cloud pricing

The cloud market leader – Amazon Web Services, on Monday, made a significant move to charge its customers by the seconds rather than by the hour for use of its EC2- the prime computing engine at the core of Amazon Web Services. AWS that was launched in 2006, used to charge for its services by the hour. But Alphabet’s Google, introduced in 2013, came in competition with AWS which started charging by the minute, with a 10-minute minimum. Later, Microsoft also introduced its Azure services and things became difficult for AWS. And now Amazon is making a good comeback by becoming even more granular with charging just by seconds, with a one-minute minimum. “Today, services like AWS Lambda prove that we can do a lot of useful work in a short time. Many of our customers are dreaming up...

Cisco to begin Early Field Trials of AVE to extend ACI to Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google

Cisco had recently announced its plans of extending Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) – its Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution, to the public cloud – Microsoft Azure, AWS and Google. This will allow quick innovation and digital transformation as enterprises will get to access ACI anywhere along with the flexibility of running their applications across their private and chosen public cloud, while maintaining constant network policies along complete multi-cloud domain. ACI helps in reducing data center complexities by providing hardware and software capabilities jointly via one environment. Approximately 4,000 customers of Cisco are currently using ACI platform. In the wake of this development, Cisco made another announcement of commencing Early Field Trials (EFT) of its...

VMware AWS partnership to promote hybrid cloud adoption

VMware announced the general availability of VMware cloud on AWS, at the VMware’s big annual conference in Las Vegas. With the availability of VMware Cloud on AWS, VMware customers get the ability to enjoy the cloud computing benefits without shelling out anything extra for any data center management software of VMware. The two companies had actually announced this partnership about an year ago. With this, VMware’s Software-defined Data Center (SDDC) has been brought to the AWS cloud, which enables the users to run applications across operationally consistent VMware vSphere-based public, private, and hybrid cloud environments, along with optimized access to AWS services. The goal of the partnership is to seamlessly extend the VMware’s environment from the enterprise data center to AWS. VMw...

It provides smooth automation via RESTful API for flexibility of accessing backup data. The solution, meant for VM administrators, features a global catalog of Virtual Machines and files that enables quick search and restoration across various machines and recovery points. It offers backup and recovery services for Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware vSphere hypervisors. It can be combined with...

Digital core and edge computing technologies can help in building the datacenter of tomorrow

Digital Transformation (DX) has resulted in an increase in the data volume generated by the organizations. Huge expansion of data can be seen across a wide range of industry verticals, including healthcare, biotech, energy, IoT (Internet of Things), automotive, telecom, consumer electronics, manufacturing, gaming, entertainment, space exploration, cyber-security and more. This has led to an increase in the data storage requirements and hence, there’s an increasing pressure that the data centers must evolve to accommodate the demands of the new-world organizations. Now, when the industries evolve, there are a number of new industry specific terms that are coined and become a part of day to day industry terminology. One such term that has been heard lately a lot in the datacenter industry is...
